Writer, wanderer, and wanna-be superhero.
The first thing you should know about me is that I'm not average or normal. Trust me, that's a good thing. I'm highly creative while also insanely disciplined and organized (chalk that up to a mild case of OCD). I have a quirky sense of humor, thrive on change, and am extremely passionate about the things I believe in. I love dogs, yoga, indie movies, wine, travel, and books, though not necessarily in that order. My greatest moment of "church awe" came when standing before Ernest Hemingway's typewriter. I believe in karma. Mean people suck. I have performed a catch on the flying trapeze, boarded down a live volcano, climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and was once robbed by a monkey in Nepal. But, I don't know how to whistle.
As a self-employed writer, I pound the keyboard from home barefoot every day; while my boss is demanding, she also occasionally lets me have the early afternoon cocktail. If I could have any dream job in the world, I would choose to be a superhero. I'm sure my superpower would revolve around being a word nerd.
In case you're interested in the more boring deets: I graduated summa cum laude from St. Edward’s University with a dual degree in journalism and cultural psychology. After working as a communications professional for several businesses and nonprofit organizations, I became a full-time freelancer in 2006. I have written for National Geographic, USA Today, The Guardian, The Telegraph, Fodor's, and Texas Monthly, among others; and have also authored several books. Neither the New York Times nor Johnny Depp have answered my letters yet.
